MEET GREG “DUSTY” QUALLS
Greg “Dusty” Qualls is the heart and primary storyteller of 18 GEARS. As an owner-operator and the founder of Dusty Road Trucking in Savannah, Tennessee, Greg writes and sings about a life he has actually lived. His songs draw from predawn starts, long hauls, mill towns, open highways, family, faith, and the pull of the lights waiting back home. That experience gives the music an honesty that cannot be manufactured. Greg grew up around church music and was influenced by his father, who sang an old song called “Down the Dusty Road.” That song eventually helped inspire the Dusty Road name and became part of the story behind Greg's musical identity. Greg is a vocalist and storyteller rather than an instrumentalist. He brings the lyrics, message, and direction to the group, then trusts the musicians of 18 GEARS to find the right sound for each song. His warm baritone voice gives the band its recognizable center. Calm and dependable, Greg keeps the group focused on the meaning behind the music.
